Most people know that ovaries are are responsible for producing eggs (also referred to as ova). However- the ovaries are also produce the hormones estrogen and progesterone.
Unfortunately- ovarian cancer has usually spread to throughout the pelvis and abdomen areas before it is detected. The cancer is much more difficult to to treat once it’s spread, and sadly, it frequently end in death.
If the cancer is identified early, before it spreads outside the ovary, it’s much more likely to be treated successfully.
Signs And Symptoms Of Ovarian Cancer
Blood cancer and ovarian cancer are two of the most dangerous forms of cancer that occur to humans. Everyone can become a prey of blood cancer, whereas the women become the clear victim of ovarian cancer.
The medical science accepts ovarian cancer as a ‘silent killer’, as it shows least or no symptoms in its initial stages. The symptoms of ovarian cancer in females are not very clear.
As the name suggests, ovarian cancer affects the ovaries that are the most important parts of the female reproductive system. Since the number of victims is increasing very rapidly these days, you must know what the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer in females are.
8 Symptoms of Ovarian Cancer
Make sure you know these 8 common signs of ovarian cancer:
1. Pain in the Pelvic/Abdominal Area
80 out of 100 patients of ovarian cancer suffer from severe pain in the pelvic and/or in the abdominal areas, both lower and upper. The pain persists causing serious discomfort.
2. Feeling Full Quickly
This is one of the most significant symptoms of ovarian cancer. There is often a considerable amount of trouble while eating and a tendency to feel full quickly, even when not eating a regular sized meal.
3. Urinary Troubles
Often, when suffering from ovarian cancer there are signs similar to a urinary infection. Especially the frequent need to urinate or a feeling needing to urinate urgently.
Like most cancer patients, those suffering from ovarian cancer also feel excessive fatigue. They complain about less or no energy to work.
5. Upset Stomach
Constant upset stomach is one of the most prominent symptoms of ovarian cancer. Also, frequent changes in bowel movements.
6. Back Pain
Pain in the body is a significant symptom of many variants of cancer. Patients of ovarian cancer are not exceptions to this. They often complain of pain in the back, especially in the lower back area.
7. Pain During Sex
Since the ovary is closely attached to the vagina, the patients of ovarian cancer often stop enjoying sex with their partners due to pain while having intercourse.
Improper movement of bowel often results in constipation, and that can leave some unpleasant pain in the patients. The medication is also not of very good results for them.
Apart from these, suffering from abdominal swelling and changes in the menstrual cycle are other symptoms of ovarian cancer.
What to Do if you notice these Symptoms
If you notice having one or more of these symptoms, and they occur daily for more than 2 or 3 weeks, it’s probably a good idea to consult your doctor to rule out any serious issues.
Please Note: Many of these symptoms occur in some women regularly.
They do not necessarily mean that you have ovarian cancer. However, early symptoms of ovarian cancer do usually follow a pattern:
- They start suddenly.
- They feel different than your normal digestive or menstrual problems.
- They happen almost every day and don’t go away.
