Food waste is a HUGE problem in the world today.
Many restaurants around the world have a large amount of extra food near closing time. Unfortunately, this perfectly edible food is typically tossed in garbage.
A new app, called Too Good To Go, may have a solution to this wasteful issue.
Too Good To Go is an app that links users with foods that would otherwise be thrown away at a very little price! The app lets a user search local restaurants in their area and pick up their food near closing time.
Additionally, food picked up is always served in an environmentally-friendly sugarcane box.
The mission of Too Good To Go

Our mission is to save food, save money and save the planet by placing the lost value back onto food as humankind’s most valuable energy resource, and not something that should just be carelessly throw in the bin. Why? Because if food waste were a country it would be the third largest emitter of greenhouse gases, whilst recovering just half of the food that is lost or wasted could feed the world alone. It’s a problem that doesn’t need to exist – and we’re determined to help solve it.
How TGTO came to be
The app was originally created in Denmark in 2015 by a group of friends looking to reduce food waste. Since then, they have expanded to 6 different countries.
The food picked up from restaurants, cafes and bakeries is sold at affordable prices. Prices range from £2 and a maximum of £3.80, which translates from $2.63 to $4.99! What a deal!

Not only reducing food waste, but giving to others
Another great feature of the app is that it lets users have the option to donate meals to individuals in need. According to the website, 1167 meals have been donated worldwide!
So far, Too Good To Go has cut a momentous amount of waste. According to Business Green, the app has already saved 600 meals from landfills in the UK.
Food waste is still a huge problem in the U.S.
Hopefully an app like Too Good To Go will soon be used in the U.S. Apparently, lawmakers are working on this issue but it is yet to be resolved.

Yet food waste remains a huge problem in the U.S., where an estimated $165 billion worth of food goes uneaten each year. Lawmakers are currently working to reduce that number with legislation like the Food Recovery Act, which would educate consumers about food waste and establish an Office of Food Recovery at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, dedicated to measuring and reducing food waste.
