You don’t have to add loads of sugar to make a good jam. In just 10 minutes, you can make this fresh blueberry jam sweetened with maple syrup and thickened with chia seeds.
Happy Summer, everyone! Lets’s talk family traditions today. Does you family have any? Many of the ones I really connect with revolve around food. I guess pretty much everything I do revolves around food these days.
Some of you may already know that I am from Finland. One of my most favorite memories from childhood is my grandmother serving the grandchildren big bowls of milk with freshly picked wild blueberries and sugar sprinkled on top. I can seriously taste it right now.
There really is something seriously special about wild Finnish blueberries. The long summer days and cool temperature create the most deeply colored and flavorful berries. They’re actually considered superior to farmed berries because of their epic antioxidant content.
We recently spent a week on the East Coast with my mom, eating good foods and talking about old times. And we ate a LOT of blueberries. Unfortunately they weren’t the wild berries that I grew up with. But it made me think about the things that we cherish as a family. For us, it mostly happens in the kitchen. It filled my cup to see my mom baking Finnish blueberry tarts with my Little One the way she used to do with me. That’s what life is all about to me. The sweet little moments we get to share with the people that we love.
And I am the luckiest girl in the world because I get to have lots of sweet little moments in the kitchen with my Little One because it’s summer, and mama works from home, and she need an assistant with photo shoots, and someone works for muffins and jam. So life is good in the Savory Lotus Kitchen.
Slather this jam on everything!
I’m coming at you today with one of Little One’s favorite summer recipes. It’s a rare occasion when there is not a jar of homemade chia jam in the fridge to smother over gluten free toast, pancakes, dutch babies, grain free waffles, muffins, smoothies, chia pudding bowls, and savory sweet potato biscuits. Her absolute favorite is Blueberry Chia Jam.
Ok, so this chia jam is seriously so easy to make. It will take you just 10 minutes and 3 ingredients. Blueberries, maple syrup, and chia seeds. It’s absolutely delicious. And you don’t have to buy that sugar-laden jam from the store anymore. We may be a tiny bit obsessed at the moment.
And look how much fun we had taking the photos for this recipe. This is why I love working from home. Creating healthy, yummy food is definitely a family tradition for us.
EASY 3 INGREDIENT BLUEBERRY CHIA JAM
- Cook Time: 10 minutes
- Total Time: 10 minutes
- Yield: 1 cup
- Add blueberries to a small sauce pan and cook over medium heat for 5 minutes, until berries begin to burst open.
- Add 2 tablespoons of maple syrup. With a fork or immersion blender, mash about half of the berries and simmer for another 5 minutes.
- Remove from heat and whisk in chia seeds until well incorporated. Taste and adjust with more maple syrup for sweetness, if necessary. Jam will thicken as seeds soften and absorb the moisture.
- Once cool, store in airtight glass jar in fridge.
