There are two basic types of inaccurate information: Disinformation and misinformation. Disinformation is outright lying or misrepresenting for marketing and propaganda purposes. Misinformation is from innocent misunderstanding or confusion that is then regenerated inaccurately to others.
This seems to be happening more on the internet now than before. The coconut oil colocterol or colon cancer curing claims on the internet is a current example. Here are a few headlines picked at random from several:
-In two days, study shows colon cancer significantly improved with coconut oil treatments!
-Coconut Oil Kills >93% of Colon Cancer Cells In Vivo
-Coconut Oil: A New Cure for Colon Cancer
-Coconut Oil Kills Cancer, Fast! Amazing Cure!
Let’s check in with reality, using the actual study that was misrepresented and exaggerated, which hardly any of those articles with the spectacular headlines linked to or accurately quoted.
They tossed phrases of “a study” or “studies show” without the title or date or journal in which it was published. A couple of them did link to the study, evidently without reading it well or at all. That’s why I’m sure I got the right study to evaluate.
The journal was a Karger publication called Chemotherapy, and it was published in January of 2014, a year after receiving it in January 2013. The study had to have been performed in 2012.
Induction of Apoptosis by the Medium-Chain Length Fatty Acid Lauric Acid in Colon Cancer Cells due to Induction of Oxidative Stress
For starters, can anyone find the tag coconut oil in the title or the abstract linked here? It’s not there at all. They tested lauric acid as the medium chain fatty acid (MCFA) against the short chain fatty acid (SCFA) butyrate for its potential as an adjunct for mainstream medicine’s chemotherapeutic approach.
So what, one might say. Everyone knows that coconut oil is high in lauric acid. Yes, coconut oil is 50% lauric acid. The researchers use pure lauric acid only, 100% pure unadulterated or not-mixed with anything lauric acid. Not coconut oil.
The study wasn’t intended to prove how a natural substance had curative powers over cancer. It was simply another attempt at determining a safe adjunct that could be used to assist chemo by creating apoptosis (cellular suicide), in cancer cells while chemo’s necrosis (externally poisoning cells) kills everything in sight, including healthy cells.
In other words, a way to keep profitable chemo drugs in use and hopefully not kill the patient before killing the cancer.
Nowhere in the abstract is the term “in vivo”, which means in a living complete organism, like a mouse or human. Preliminary medical testing commonly starts with “in vitro” testing, which means literally “in glass”, or test tubes, petri dishes, and flasks.
The only way this study could determine if 93% of colorectal cancer cells were erased in two days, as several articles printed, is if the study was in vitro. No way will any benign or toxic substance eliminate 93% of cancer cells in vivo within two days.
The 93% reduction in colorectal cancer cells may be in the full text of this study, which is not available unless paid for, but it had to be an in vitro event to be able to determine that. And humans are not floating in petri dishes.
No one has been cured of colorectal cancer with coconut oil
The headlines and articles with less dramatic headlines implied that coconut oil was used on actual live models, mice, humans, or whatever. There was no mention of what or whom the mysterious live models were that had a 93% reduction of colorectal cancer, a major killer, in two days.
Someone early-on picked up on a misunderstood version of this study with assumptive conclusions and passed it on for others to repeat the misinformation. It’s that simple. No one was cured of colorectal or colon cancer with coconut oil. It hasn’t even been attempted! This sort of projected conclusion is like the “10 dead doctors” nonsense that’s been going around.
So far, of the 10 deaths “reported”, Dr. Jeff Bradstreet is the only one who easily qualifies as an alleged victim of foul play from the medical mafia. Here’s my article on that scenario. Always look more closely at the sources for an article with outrageous claims.
By the way, if anyone has any documentation to demonstrate that Dr. Nicholas Gonzalez was heavily involved with nagalase for curing cancer enough to be possibly assassinated by the medical mafia, let me know. I am genuinely curious. If you actually have that information, contact me.
Coconut oil has many powerful benefits
I’m not denigrating coconut oil’s actual known virtues. It improves memory and reverses dementia, even Alzheimer’s. It’s good for topical applications to improve skin issues, oral oil pulling to remove toxins, and some are using it successfully for leaky gut syndrome.
Obviously coconut oil can help prevent or reverse colon cancer with other natural remedies and a proper diet. But no humans were cured of colorectal or colon cancer using coconut oil in any trials thus far, though there are many articles claiming or implying such.
No sources and very little detailed information are red flags. Be skeptical until you’re convinced whatever you read is accurate and factual.
Believing tabloid like headlines and jumping to conclusions is bad for making your healthy choices and gives the whole alternative health media a black eye or two.
