Cannabis comes with a host of medicinal properties, but not everyone can handle smoking the herb, and additionally, not everyone can handle the psychoactive effects that come along with its consumption. Raw cannabis is believed by some to be a necessary dietary staple, and while it is a versatile plant, separating myth from fact can be challenging.
The big question is: is it effective to juice cannabis as opposed to smoking it. Let’s investigate.
It doesn’t matter what form you take it, whether sativa, indica, wild, seed, or resin. Essential amino acids, fatty acids, and cannabinoid acids are just a few of the hundreds of cancer-killing compounds found in the plant. The benefit of juicing is that it allows the cannabinoids to interact with the body in the small intestine, allowing the digestive system to absorb many of the minerals, vitamins and enzymes within the plant.
This is where juicing has an advantage over smoking. Heat is required to convert the THCA into THC. According to Dr. William Courtney, “If you heat the plant, you will decarboxylate THC-acid and you will get high. If you don’t heat it, you can go up to five or six hundred milligrams and use it as Dietary Cannabis…and push it up to the antioxidant and neuro-protective levels which come into play at hundreds of milligrams.”
Probably the most obvious benefit: you don’t have to smoke it
Studies suggest that moderate modest use of cannabis to be less harmful than smoking cigarettes, it can still be damaging. Smoking marijuana can irritate the airways and lead to diseases like bronchitis.
There are a variety of different ways cannabis juice can be consumed. It can be added to other juices if you don’t like the flavor, and in conjunction with other high anti-oxidant beverages, it can keep you especially alert all day.
This is easily the best reason to juice instead of smoke. The plants produce cannabinoids in the acidic forms only. THCA and CBDA are believed to act as powerful anti-inflammatories, antioxidants and neuroprotectants. When left in their natural forms, THCA and CBDA don’t get you high. “THCA is a tricky molecule, “says Dr. William Courtney. Once it’s heated, it turns into THC and the tolerable dose drops from hundreds of milligrams a day to ten milligrams.”
There isn’t much evidence that cannabis causes psychological problems, and there’s no evidence that drinking it does
There are dozens of studies that show cannabinoids from juices and extracts are effective against a variety of severe illnesses.
